“If you can limit your Easter chocolate intake to just the Easter long weekend, it will be more beneficial in the long run.”

Heidi had a few tips to help lower the intake of chocolate at Easter.

“Try not to indulge the whole month beforehand, eat smaller portions of chocolate eggs.

“It might be nice to have a display of eggs, but you can get stuck eating them for weeks. Try and buy a smaller amount of eggs.”

But the Easter holidays have other benefits.

“It is nice to indulge but balance out by being active.”

Another good idea is to boil eggs and decorate them.

“Boil plain eggs, then colour-in their shells or decorate them. They can also be a healthy snack and are reasonably priced.

“Plain hot cross buns are a nice treat and the fruitless buns have less kilojoules than chocolate eggs.

“It’s OK to have some chocolate in your diet. But it is best to have a small amount during the Easter period. Balance is important.”

Local mum Mel Robertson said she tried to save all the Easter presents for the weekend.

Her daughter Claudia said she was very excited about Easter.

“I hope the Easter bunny will bring some chocolates,” she said.

“Last year I had to go on a hunt to find them.”
