Matt Quin has made a flying start in the MJG Engineering Motocross Series with a sharp ride at the weekend.

The motocross season got underway on Sunday at the Broken Hill Speedway Club track, with around 50 riders having a practice run then lining up for the races.

Riders competed in three standard races and three sprints throughout the day.

Quin finished on top of the A Grade table with 97 points from his races, followed by Callum Dodimead (89pts) and Sam Edwards (80pts).

“It wasn’t too bad. We had a good run and some good competition,” he said.

In the B Grade, Simon Evitts was the top rider with 94 points, while Trent Clare’s 94 points saw him earn a place at the top of the C Grade ladder.

In the women’s competition, Gemma Gers (75pts) held off Kate Curran (66pts) to take an early lead in the series.

Other top riders on the day were Ben Langford (75pts, 125/250cc junior), Kye Lawrence (75pts, 80-110cc), Jackson Barraclough (75pts, 85cc), Tarrant Lihou (68pts, 65cc) and Lachlan Spratt (75pts, 50cc).

Organisers of the meeting thanked all their sponsors for their support in making the event a success.

The next round will be held on April 27.
