Feel the heat
Wednesday, 10th February, 2010
Locals can "feel the heat" tomorrow night with a fiery art exhibition by Fiona Fell. "Outskirts of Flame" starts at 7pm and will be held at 109 Murton Street, which is the former St Peter and St Paul's school. Ms Fell is an artist-in-residence at the BH Art Exchange.
Peter Pippen, the Director of the Art Exchange, said with funding from Arts NSW it provided a place for artists to come and do community art work. Ms Fell does ceramic sculpture and is a teacher at Southern Cross University in Lismore.
Collaborating in the event is Sue Davidson, who is the furnace assistant, and Steve Ross, who owns the former school. The sculptures will be painted by visiting artist Rex Turnbull and then placed above a fire which acts as a kiln.
Boris Hlavica from the local Images of Australia Gallery will photograph the sculptures. "The art is in the photography as the fire will eventually melt the clay," said Mr Pippen. "We are trying to create a picnic atmosphere," he said. "It will be a great event for the public to see."
People are invited come along and bring a chair and sensible footwear. A sausage sizzle will be provided with proceeds going to the Broken Hill Art Exchange
