Eliza Cumming and Angel Simmons are taking their game across the Tasman for the Pan Pacific Basketball Championships.

The girls have been selected in the Australian Country Junior Cup team after starring for SA Country at a recent combined carnival in Albury.

Although Angel and Eliza play in the under 14 competition, they will step up into the under 15 grade for the tournament and take on teams from all across New Zealand.

Despite the jump in age group, Broken Hill basketball Association president Grahame Semmens predicted that the girls and their teammates would handle whatever the Kiwis throw at them.

“I expect both Eliza and Angel to be very dominant and be too strong for their opposition teams as both players have worked extremely hard to get where they are now,” said Mr Semmens.

“Broken Hill Basketball would like to wish both girls all the very best on their experience.”

The duo flew out yesterday, and will spend a day training and sightseeing before the Championships begin tomorrow.

Both girls wish to thank all businesses and individuals who provided sponsorship and bought tickets in raffles and other fundraisers.

Raffles were won by K. Clogg (Crows guernsey), D. Burke (painting), T. King and L. Butcher (fuel vouchers), J. Smith and J. Sulucich ($75 lucky squares) and M. Craven and C. Radford ($25 lucky squares).
