About 50 students from the University of NSW were in BH to tour the city’s mining operations this week. About 50 students from the University of NSW were in BH to tour the city’s mining operations this week.

Engineering students from the University of NSW gained a valuable insight into their future professions when they toured three of BH’s mining operations this week.

Cristal Mining, Perilya and CBH hosted the students during the field trips that explored the entire mining process from ore extraction to mineral processing.

Cristal Mining Human Resources Business Partner David Arthur said the opportunity provided valuable practical experience.

“Being able to support and provide this opportunity to the mining engineering students is a valuable part of their learning and development, particularly exposing the students to a mining industry that they may not ordinarily experience,” he said.

Students Hugo Flores and David Phan said the chance to get out of the lecture theatre and experience the real world practicalities of the industry was invaluable.

“It’s really interesting, in reality these are the activities we will have to perform,” Hugo said.

“The best way to learn is the physical way,” David agreed.
