Gearing up for Volunteer Week
Friday, 2nd May, 2014
Preparations are gearing up for the 2014 Volunteer Week Awards with the Volunteers Working Group keen to receive RSVPs for the event.
One group that has been quick off the mark in responding has been the Volunteer Walk Tour group.
Led by 30 year veteran Daphne Coffey, the volunteer group can be seen regularly taking tourists on a wonderful journey through our city’s history, admiring our iconic attractions.
“The awards are a wonderful way to honour our many volunteers and their commitment to our community,” Mrs Coffey said.
“Like so many groups we are always looking for volunteers and with our numbers down to six guides, we would encourage people to consider the Volunteer Walking Tour group as a great way to promote the city and interact with our many visitors.”
The awards are also special for Margot White whose mother Nydia Edes has been honoured with the Volunteer Hall of Fame named after her.
Nydia Edes was the first female Alderman on the Broken Hill City Council and a recipient of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal who worked tirelessly throughout her life for the improvement of women’s conditions.
Mrs White has followed in her mother’s footsteps with a strong volunteering background, including being a member of the Volunteer Walk Tour group.
Those interested in more information or wanting to join the Volunteer Walk Tour can call Mrs Coffey on 8087 2782.
The 2014 Volunteer Week Awards will be held at the Broken Hill Civic Centre on May 13 from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
RSVPs have been extended until Wednesday 7 May.
