A P-plate driver in a white Ford hit and knocked down a woman at the Centro Westside plaza late last month and police are appealing for information from witnesses to the incident.

The 63-year-old woman only reported it this week because she had suffered shock and had to seek medical attention for her injuries, police said yesterday.

The incident happened on Monday, January 25 at between 11.30am and 11.45am. The woman told police that she had finished her shopping and was on the pedestrian crossing outside Proud's jewellery shop when the car, which was speeding and weaving, clipped her on the right side of her body and knocked her down. The driver did not stop.

After recovering from her shock she went to her doctor who ordered X-rays be taken because she had suffered injuries to her lower back and hips, police said. The police said they had asked the shopping centre's management to provide them with closed circuit television footage which may help them catch the driver.

Anyone who saw the incident or who may have information that can help police in their inquiries is asked to phone the police station on 8087 0299 and ask to speak to Senior Constable James Wheatley.
