“Saints won their first Tooheys Group 12 premiership since 1984 when they defeated United 18-14 at Rugby League Park last Sunday.

United led 8-6 at the break but two converted tries to centre Ray put the black-and-whites 18-8 in front before United counter-attacked with lock Long crossing for a converted try.

Saints led by four points but United threw everything at them in a desperate finish. Lock Long dived over one minute before fulltime but the final pass was ruled forward following consultation between referee Brady and touch judge Watts. Saints had survived by the skin of their teeth.”
