The St Vincent de Paul Society is recognising its volunteers with a “get-together” today as a part of National Volunteer Week.

The local branch has 61 volunteers working in its Argent Street centre. They empty collection bins, sort donated goods and sell them in the shop.

Funds raised go towards food parcels, clothing, bedding and household items, assistance with energy bills and other utilities, rates, transport, medical bills and budget counselling.

BH St Vincent de Paul’s regional manager Phil Sky said it was important to recognise the work of volunteers.

“We want to thank everybody for their generosity and time,” he said.

“We are having a get together (today) at the Meal Centre to celebrate and thank everyone.”

Mr Sky said there was always a need for more volunteers.
