Round table talks underway
Wednesday, 21st May, 2014
A community round table headed by City Council has met for the first time.
The group is made up of “community leaders” and aims to work towards achieving Council’s Community Strategic Plan.
“We have a strong cross-representation of community members who represent key groups whom Council will work closely with in supporting the community in the delivery of its plan,” Deputy Mayor Marion Browne said.
Community representative Kathy Mitchell said the round table concept was a positive step for Council in engaging with the community.
“Through the community plan everyone has the opportunity to participate and those who choose to do will gain something,” Ms Mitchell said.
“The success of the plan and the round table is only as good as the people behind it. It is reliant on people within our community to take the first steps for change. I think it is a forum for real change.”
Clr Browne said the community strategic plan was a uniting document.
“Certainly while we are facing unprecedented financial challenges, the community plan certainly brings a strong sense of reality of where we are as a city and the way forward in creating a strong future,” Clr Browne said.
“It is extremely positive and outlines what can be achieved with a united front. It is not a Council plan, but a plan developed by our community, that requires community input and participation.”
Roundtable members will meet quarterly.
