The Barrier Daily Truth raised $500 for charity this week, just by sharing some coffee and some cake.

The BDT has been holding an annual Biggest Morning Tea for the past seven years, where all money raised goes to the Cancer Council.

The event, which was opened to the public on Thursday, sold out quickly.

“It was an excellent result, we’re really happy with it,” organiser and BDT employee Cherie Carroll said.

“A lot of our customers and members of the general public came in to support us.

“The savoury and the sweet items were equally as popular - most people got a bit of both.”

Cherie said that the event had gradually built up over the past seven years.

“Hopefully next year we’ll raise even more!”

Cherie thanked the public for getting behind the event, as well as the staff and relatives who had baked something for the occasion.

The money will go directly to the South Australian branch of the Cancer Council.
