One week left to apply for electricity rebate
Friday, 6th June, 2014
Households struggling with energy bills have one week left to apply for a rebate.
Eligible families can make an online application and up to $250 to help manage energy bills.
“The money is there, the funding for assistance is available, and I urge eligible families to submit their application for the 2013/14 financial year by 5pm on Friday, 13 June,” Member for Murray-Darling John Williams said.
“The Family Energy Rebate is available to households who currently receive the Commonwealth Government’s Family Tax Benefit A or B,” Mr Williams said.
“If also eligible to receive the NSW Government’s Low Income Household Rebate, households could be saving up to $250 off their energy bills.”
To apply online, head to www.resourcesandenergy.nsw.gov.au/info/familyenergyrebate or call Service NSW on 13 77 88.
In addition, St Vincent de Paul offer a voucher through the NSW Government Scheme.
The $50 EAPA vouchers are distributed to electricity and gas customers by a range of community welfare organisations.
BH St Vincent de Paul’s regional manager Phil Sky there had not been a “rush” for assistance this year.
“I think people are becoming more educated on keeping their bills down,” Mr Sky said.
“But, we also haven’t had a real winter yet.”
Mr Sky believes once winter sets in, bills will rise again.
“Heating can be quite expensive,” he said. “The vouchers are available to anyone who needs help or are struggling with their bills.
“It is extra help, for those who are struggling.”
