Silver City hockey players are being urged to pick up their sticks.

Broken Hill Hockey Association is hoping to reinvigorate the local league with a come and try and registration day at Picton Oval this afternoon.

“In 2012 there was a competition but it hasn’t been strong since 2011 and last year we had nothing,” BHHA President Tracy Wood said.

“I’ve found there is a lot of interest in hockey but it just needed someone to give it a bit of a push.”

Ms Wood, who previously played in Western Australia before moving to Broken Hill, has been encouraged by the response so far.

“Every time someone comes up to me and says they’re interested, it gives me a little spark,” she said.

The association has numbers for two teams but is hoping for enough to form a four-team competition.

“We’ll have a mixed senior competition and we’ll also be looking at a junior competition next term,” Ms Wood said.

Fixtures will also be played at Picton Oval at 2pm.
