Essential Energy’s major project

Essential Energy crews are working on a major project to put underground about 400 metres of overhead powerlines in Argent Lane.
Regional Manager (Northern) Ben Williams said the upgrade would strengthen the city’s power supply capacity and provide Essential Energy with increased flexibility to re-route power to the area.
“Once complete, our crews will have increased ability to re-route power around the network and restore electricity quicker in the event of an unplanned supply interruption,” Mr Williams said.
“It will also help to reduce the number of businesses affected by planned power supply interruptions as part of future maintenance and network upgrades.”
The improvement works will also include the installation of new streetlight columns to replace the old timber poles in the lane.
While crews are currently ahead of schedule, changes to local traffic arrangements will continue with Argent Lane closed to traffic between 8am and 4pm each weekday.
“There are trucks and other heavy equipment in the area so we urge motorists to continue to follow the temporary traffic controls around our work site,” Mr Williams said.
“We appreciate that changed traffic conditions can cause inconvenience to some road users and businesses and appreciate the community’s patience as we work to complete this major upgrade.”
The underground work is expected to be completed this month.
