Youngster Logan Berryman has flown the flag for many Barrier representative teams in the past but is about to step up to the big time.
The Morgan Street student has been selected for the New South Wales Primary Schools Sports Association’s AFL side.
The national carnival, featuring teams from each state, is held in Sydney from July 19 to 26.
The North junior was named in the NSWPSSA side after a stellar performance for the Barrier team at the recent State primary carnival.
Although the Far West side won just one match and finished in last position, Logan did enough to impress selectors.
“They named the team after the competition and announced them by region by region,” said Logan, a diehard Hawthorn supporter.
“I was pretty surprised.”
Logan’s dad, Luke, said he was very proud of his son’s achievements.
“He’s not just representing his club or school, he’ll be out there playing against some of the best kids in the country which is great,” Luke said.
“They chose the squad of 23 from over 300 students across the State, so he’s has done very well.”
Logan’s opening match of the tournament will be at the Sydney Cricket Ground with other games to be played at Skoda Stadium, home of the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
Before the nationals, a three-day camp in Baronga is scheduled for the July school holidays.
Luke thanked local businesses for their support and said that they planned to hold fundraisers before Logan left the city.
