Vinnies gets help to help others
Saturday, 28th June, 2014
Many local families will do it tough over the winter, but St Vincent de Paul is here to help.
The St Vincent de Paul Society’s Winter Appeal is now on and regional manager Phil Sky said they have had some very generous donations so far.
“Service clubs, local clubs, organisations and private organisations have made donations, Mr Sky said.
“We would like to thank them for thinking of us.”
Between June and August 2013, St Vincent de Paul helped more than 33,000 people in NSW and provided $3.3 million in assistance.
This included just under $1 million in energy vouchers and cash to help people pay their bills.
A further $1.6 million was provided in food assistance, an increase of close to $500,000 for the same period in 2012.
“Monetary donations are very important - it helps us to help people,” Mr Sky said.
Also, in the cold weather people struggle with the cost of electricity and gas bills.
Mr Sky said if anyone needed help, they could come into St Vinnies in Argent Street.
“We will try to help where we can,” he said.
