Prospective dog owners have a rare chance to add a gentle giant and guardian to their family with two wolfhound-cross puppies available at the RSPCA.

The female pups are just eight weeks old and appear to have a very kind and quiet nature.

Wolfhounds are renowned for the strong bond they build with their owners and, despite their size, are rarely destructive or a nuisance.

RSPCA shelter volunteer Cheryl Backhouse said the puppies would be ideal for families, and a large yard would be preferable.

They can be adopted for $250, which includes vet check, desexing, first vaccination, flea control, microchipping and worming.
