They say winning a grand final is the best day of your life but Wilcannia Boomerangs’ Jamin Whyman had another more important reason to celebrate on Saturday afternoon.

Following his team’s win over Geebungs in the Outback Rugby League decider, Whyman went down on one knee and proposed to long-term partner Jacqueline.

He said popping the question was part of the plan regardless of the outcome.

“Win or lose it was always going to happen,” Whyman said.

“But I was confident that we’d get the game, and I was confident that she’d say yes, too.”

The pair have been together for 12 years and have two children together.

“We’ve been travelling around a little,” Whyman said.

“Came back here for a bit of work and I thought this was the right time.

“She’s my best friend.

“To do it in front of family from Wilcannia and Broken Hill as well as team mates is something pretty special.”

For the record, Jacqueline said “yes”.
