Police put face to armed robber
Thursday, 18th September, 2014
Broken Hill detectives yesterday released another image of a man they want to interview about an armed robbery at the South Hotel in Patton Street last month.
On August 3, a barman was closing the pub when a man entered the premises about 9.50pm and produced a knife.
The bandit punched the barman in the side of the head, and stole a large sum of cash from the register before fleeing.
It was the night of the South Football Club's oldtimers' function.
It was also the fourth armed robbery in the south business district within a year.
Earlier this week, detectives released a blurry CCTV image of man in front of the hotel, and appealed for help.
"Police believe the person in the photo can assist with their enquiries," a police spokesman said.
"Members of the public may have seen this person in or around the vicinity of the South Broken Hill Hotel around 10pm."
Police also appealed for an anonymous person who called Crimestoppers to get in touch with local detectives.
"Additionally police are requesting information from the community about any person that came into possession of a large sum of money following the offence."
Police yesterday thanked the public for their input into the robbery investigation during the last couple of days, and released a "comfit" picture of a man they want to interview.
He is described as being of slim build, about 180cm tall, and wearing dark clothing on the night of the robbery.
If you have information, call police on 8087 0299 or Crimestoppers on 1300 333 000.
