Chronic disease top topic at health forum

Saturday, 20th September, 2014

Health Council members came together yesterday to discuss chronic disease.

The forum also heard presentations on health promotion and the highly commended Move2Music project developed by Dareton Primary and Community Health.

“We had a really interesting day. We had representatives from as far as Tibooburra and Balranald attend,” said Darriea Turley, local health district community engagement manager.

“The Tibooburra Health Council are very active in their community; about 10 per cent of the population are on the Health Council.”

Ms Turley said all the health councils showcased what they had achieved throughout the year.

“The underlying issue was chronic disease and how to address it,” she said.

“We had talks on that, as well as from the health promotion officer, to give us a framework to develop our own promotions.”

Ms Turley also said two new health councils had been developed in Wilcannia and White Cliffs.

“We will give them support and help to get them off the ground,” she said.
