Hours of training and travel have paid off for basketballer Heath Harris after he was selected to compete at the Australian Junior Championships.

The 15 year old will represent South Australia Country in the Under 16, and square off against teams from all across Australia.

Heath was first selected in the SA Country 30-man squad after performing well at the SA State Titles in Albury.

From there he had to travel to Adelaide every fortnight for training as the team was gradually culled to just 10 players.

Broken Hill Basketball Association President Grahame Semmens, said Heath had been playing well as a tall forward, and praised his application to the sport.

"Heath has been back and forward to Adelaide for many trainings and this is a testament to both his family, and Heath's dedication.

"On behalf of Broken Hill Basketball we wish him all the best."

Heath is now taking part in an SA Country training camp in Murray Bridge and will travel to Logan, Queensland to take part in the National Championships next week.
