A local Irish dancer has won five events at a Celtic Festival.

Mahaila Denton is a keen Irish dancer who dances with Joy Baldwin School of Dance, mother Annette Denton said.

She recently competed in the 12th Celtic Festival with the Celtic and Irish Dance Association in South Australia.

Mahaila danced five Irish dances - four soft shoe and one hard shoe.

“She came away from the competition with five first places and the perpetual trophy for her age division,” Mrs Denton said.

“Mahaila is keen to compete again next year.

“She is very grateful for the tuition given by Mrs Baldwin who has taught her a variety of Irish dances and continues to work hard at creating excellent technique.”
