Five enthusiastic swimmers from the Silver City Swim club have been making the most of the school holidays and their preparations for the 2015 SA Country and State Swimming Championships.

Kai Pressler, Kiara Pressler, Lydia Hinton-Neal, Kalyce Pressler and Talon Zammit-Harvey have been in Adelaide participating in training camps, swimming clinics, and competitions.

Firstly the swimmers took part in an intensive four day training camp with the Onkaparinga and Whyalla Swimming Clubs, and the SA State Coach.

The camp included twice a day training sessions, test sets, skills and technique sessions, underwater filming and analysis, strength training and running sessions. This is the third year the camp has been held, with Silver City to host it again in 2016.

Next the athletes were inspired at a two day clinic conducted by Olympic and World Champion medallists Tommaso D’Orsogna and Sally Hunter. The focus was on technique, drills, skills, dives and turns, and the team came away with many tips to help improve their racing.

The swimmers tested their fitness and speed by finally competing with distinction at the Swimming SA Division One and Junior Excellence Meets. Kai recorded four personal best times, winning the 50m backstroke and 200m breaststroke with a 3.56 second PB. He also placed third in both the 100m backstroke and breaststroke with another 2.16 second PB.

Kiara achieved six personal bests, including a 4.19 second break in the 100m freestyle. She came second in the 50m and 200m butterfly, and finished third in the 100m backstroke. Kiara recorded seven JX times to gold level.

Ten year olds Lydia and Kalyce both swam exceptionally in the 12 years & under age-group. Lydia won the 200m breaststroke in a personal best by 9.51 seconds (3:25.34). She also broke her 100m breaststroke time by 5.51 seconds (1:35.60), and set two JX gold standard times. Kalyce won the 200m butterfly in a personal best time by an incredible 31.54 seconds to record a 3:04.57. She achieved four PBs and two JX gold levels, with a time of 36.83 seconds for the 50m butterfly.

Talon showed his expertise in breaststroke, winning the 9 years 50m breaststroke in a JX gold time, and finishing second in the 9/10 years 100m breaststroke.

Meanwhile, teammates Sienna Speechley, Deaken Treloar and Max Trask practised their racing skills at the last club point score for the year, with Sienna breaking her 100m breaststroke time by 4.54 seconds, and 50m butterfly by 1.88 seconds. Max improved his 50m butterfly time by 2.98 seconds.

Next on the swimming calendar is the Sunraysia two day carnival being held in Mildura between Christmas and New Year.

Good luck to the ten swimmers from the Silver City Swim Club who will be representing the city - Crawford Hinton-Neal, Talon Zammit-Harvey, Kalyce Pressler, Max Trask, Lydia Hinton-Neal, Sienna Speechley, Deaken Treloar, Kiara Pressler, Kai Pressler and Andrew Pressler.
