Power outage hits thousands

Friday, 2nd January, 2015

Nursing a post New Year’s Eve hangover in the searing heat is bad enough, but some were forced to endure it without electricity.

Around 4000 premises throughout Broken Hill and Menindee were affected by a power outage during yesterday’s scorching weather.

The widespread interruption occurred after 12pm and was understood to be caused by a fault in powerlines.

The city’s CBD and railway town were among the areas that lost power, whilst South Broken Hill was unaffected.

Essential Energy crews worked to restore electricity to many premises within an hour.
