Crash driver does a runner

The driver of an unregistered utility crashed into a give-way sign while trying to evade police yesterday and then ran away.
Police said they first saw the Datsun dual-cab in the regeneration area at the South Golf Club about 7.45am.
They said they attempted to stop it but that it sped off up Jamieson Street before mounting the kerb and colliding with the sign at the corner of Rockwell Street.
The driver then abandoned the vehicle, which was also uninsured, and is now being sought by police who said they were following several lines of inquiry.
Neighbourhood pest cops a fine
The owner of a house where a mob of inconsiderate party goers were causing trouble for neighbours has been hit with a fine and an order stay quiet for a month.
Police said that they went to the house in Cobalt Street several times in the early hours of Saturday after complaints about the loud music and people yelling and shouting in the back yard.
On the last occasion, about 6am, police slapped a 28-day noise abatement notice on the householder and also hit him with a $250 fine for continuing to ignore all the previous requests to keep the noise down.
“People have to be aware that if they are told to keep the music down, then that’s what they have got to do,” a police spokesman said. “It is for a reason.”
