When we talk of young leaders, Claudia Paul is a shining example of the young, talented people who have embraced the opportunities afforded in our city.
Now her efforts towards helping others has been recognised with Claudia yesterday named Broken Hill’s Young Citizen of the Year.
Mayor Wincen Cuy said Claudia, who enters her fifth year of a double degree in medicine and surgery with Adelaide University, was a wonderful example to young people in our city.
“Claudia has shown there are opportunities for young people to grow their leadership skills, become active participants in our city and learn from others,” Mayor Cuy said.
“Importantly Claudia wants to give back to her community and has indicated she will complete her rural placement at the Broken Hill hospital.
“While her study regime is rigorous, she still has time to support charity organisations and I know that she also wants to see young people in our city do well.
“Her recognition as Young Citizen of the Year is well deserved.”
Broken Hill High School student Zayden Speechley was also recognised in the youth section, being presented with a Youth Encouragement Award.
“This young man is a leader in the making. This award will be a catalyst for him to keep building and growing his skills,” the mayor said.
“These awards certainly show we have a younger generation willing to give their time to making our city great.”
