Organisers of the Mother’s Day Classic are calling on Broken Hill residents to stage their own event. Organisers of the Mother’s Day Classic are calling on Broken Hill residents to stage their own event.

‘Women in Super Mother’s Day Classic’ is the nation’s largest breast cancer research fundraiser, and organisers are calling on Broken Hill to sign up.

The fun run/walk has become a calendar must-do for thousands of families, friends and community groups who enjoy a festive event that supports a serious cause.

Last year a record 88 country towns took part, helping to raise $4.5 million to fund National Breast Cancer Foundation research.

Mother’s Day Classic CEO, Sharon Morris, said in 2007 they saw that regional communities could be involved.

“Breast cancer does not discriminate by location and there was a need for regional areas to hold their own fun run,” she said.

“It is such a great community activity, anyone can get involved; Councils, local sport groups, community groups.”

Ms Morris said it was easy to organise a Mother’s Day Classic.

“It doesn’t have to be a huge event, it could be a simple walk in the park.

“We are interested to see if any Broken Hill residents want to take up the baton.

“It would be great if the local Council could start up an event.”

Local organisers have until March 16 to apply to stage a walk or run in their town.
