Robins ready to take flight
Friday, 6th February, 2015
The West Women’s Football team are ready and raring to go for the 2015 season.
Co-captain Gaylee Honson said the past few years for the team had been a struggle.
“We have struggled for numbers previously, but this year we have 14 on the books,” she said.
“We are getting that many to training and that is enough for us to go to the field.
“We’re in, bring on 2015.”
Gaylee said she thought it might have been a struggle last year.
“We lost five players at the end of last year, but we have all we needed to take the field.”
The team has been training for three weeks and is developing a good rapport with each other.
Coach Colin Tonkin said he saw a lot of potential.
“I coached them last year, and I think they are going to improve out of sight this year,” he said.
Gaylee said she played football for fun and exercise.
“It’s also good to socialise, I’ve made some very good friendships,” she said.
“We are a good tight group, we get on really well and everyone is really encouraging.”
Colin said he taught all the skills, so beginners could come along.
The team trains on Monday and Wednesday at 6pm at the Sturt Park.
Anyone is welcome to attend.
