Patrons and supporters of the South Football Club are encouraged to get trackside tonight, with a big night of harness racing being held in the Roos’ honour.
There will five fields of racing at the Memorial Paceway including races dedicated to the premiership A and B grade teams, and club best and fairest winner Jordan Johns.
The South Premiers’ night was initially planned for January 17, but had to be rescheduled after heavy rain prevented a number of stables from having their horses ready to race.
South coach Craig Thomas said it was good to see the night finally held for the Roos, and predicted a great night at the Memorial Oval.
“It’s a bit of a tradition that they put on a night for the premiers, and it’s our first time for a long time,” said Thomas.
“The word’s been put out right across the South community.
“And we’ve told all our senior players including the women and the under 18s to get down there and support the trots for putting this on for us, so it should be a great night.”
Racing begins at 8pm with the running of the South Roos Reserves premiers 2014 Pace over 1900 metres.
Full bookmaking, bar and canteen facilities are available at the course.
