He’s a man on a mission and he wants your cigarette butts and used toothpaste tubes.
Local resident Luke Nugent has always been an advocate for the preservation of our precious environment.
That’s why he recently decided to get actively involved to do his bit and he hopes residents and local pubs and clubs will join him.
Mr Nugent is collecting the items to be recycled as part of a program called TerraCycle, which aim to keep waste out of landfills.
It uses different types of rubbish to create everything from a pot plant to a park bench via a process called injection moulding.
“I’m happy to pick up the butts and toothpaste tubes from people or they can deliver them to me,” Luke said.
“People do it with vegetable scraps, why can’t they do it with cigarette butts as well?
“What I’d like is for every pub, club and smoker to get involved and for the clubs to put aside those big yellow gravy buckets because those would be great to post them off in.”
Mr Nugent said he’d also been collecting ring pulls off the tops of aluminium cans for a different program and encouraged donations of those as well.
“I send them off and they turn them into wheelchairs for kids who’ve lost limbs in land mines.
“I’m not a hippie or a greenie, I’m just a man of science and reason.”
If you’d like to donate your rubbish call Mr Nugent on 0477 224 077 and he’ll be happy to swing by and collect it.
