Take a spin at Disco
Friday, 13th February, 2015
The Silver City Roller Disco is back and it’s shaping up to be a freaky Friday.
Tonight’s fancy dress will have a “Friday the 13th v Valentines Day” theme, and kids can dress up and support the forces of good or evil on the night.
The disco provides a fun and safe place for children to catch up with friends and enjoy some music while taking a spin around the huge roller rink.
The disco runs from 7.30pm-9.30pm at the rink at the Memorial Oval. Full canteen facilities are available and the $5 entry fee also covers skate hire.
Kids who are keen to get into the competitive side of skating can also attend learn to skate classes on Saturday mornings (10am-11.30am) and Tuesday afternoons (5pm-6.30pm).
“It’s fun, it’s good for fitness, and it’s pretty cheap at $5 a lesson to learn such a great skill,” said Silver City Rollerskating Club publicity officer, Kate Phillips.
“And all the kids are coached beautifully by Marie White who has experience competing all over Australia.”
Marie said it was important to keep junior skating strong because without sufficient junior numbers the club could be lost to the city.
The club needs a certain number of members to remain affiliated with Skate NSW, thereby protecting its public liability.
Ms White said now was a perfect time for aspiring champions to take up the sport, with a full training program available including skate hire.
Kids can complete four stages of training and achieve certificates along the way, eventually preparing them for competitive events.
Anyone seeking more information on skating may contact Ms Phillips on 0450 232 312 or Ms White on 8087 6980.
