The Central Women’s football team is putting the call out for more players.

Marcia and Rebecca Millsteed said they had enough players to field a side but that was all.

“We have about 16 players confirmed,” Marcia said. “We are looking to about six or seven more players.

“We are allowed to have 25 in our team and ideally we would then have 18 on the field, so we can still play but we would be short.

“If players have to work one weekend then we wouldn’t have enough.”

Marcia said this could disadvantage other teams as well.

“Other teams then have to match who we put on the field, so they will have to drop their team back.

“We are looking for more juniors. They are not overly keen at the moment.”

The age is 15 years and over.

Central has dominated the competition but are working on rebuilding their side.

“We’ve done well over the past three years but now we have to rebuild again,” Marcia said.

“I think we did this at the start of last season as well.

“We only had the bare minimum last year; we never had any spare players.

“A couple of our players have moved away this year. We do have some people coming in.”

Marcia said they weren’t concerned about skill level.

“We are working on that with our coaches. They are focusing on teaching us things like handball and kicking properly.

“At the end of the day it is just about having fun.

“We really encourage people to come out. It would be nice to have a full team.”
