The search for missing Victorian man Dane Kowalski has come to a tragic end after his body was discovered in the South Australian outback.

Kowalski, 27, left his Diamond Creek home on December 12 for Darwin but never returned, sparking concern among family and friends.

Missing person signs were placed around Broken Hill as it was believed he may have passed through the city, and an online campaign was launched with the hashtag #FindDane.

His body was finally found 95km south of Coober Pedy, and around 340 metres from his Holden Rodeo ute which had become bogged.

Dane’s mother, Vera, said a piece of cardboard with the words “I have been bitten by a snake” was also on the ground at the scene.

$1700 was discovered in Dane’s car, but Vera said he had simply been doing cash jobs before he set out on the trip, and police said there was no evidence to suggest foul play.

A full investigation in the man’s death is now underway.
