The store which “ran right through from the front to the laneway” opened in 1887 and merged with Dryens in 1992.
“It’s just been years and years since (the store closed) and my girlfriend was talking about Pellew’s and said, ‘Why don’t we just do a reunion?’” she said.
“The staff were great to work with and it was a lovely place. I spent four years there.”
Ms Mortimer and fellow organiser Jill McDonald hoped to contact as many past employees as possible however the task proved tricky as many of the women had since taken on married surnames.
“We’ve got quite a few locals who said they’ll come and one lady, Marion Capper, worked there 19 years and gave us a four page list of names.
“But we want to reach out to those we haven’t got hold of or who have changed their names.”
The hunt for memorabilia was also in full swing and a photo board would be set up at the reunion.
“We’ve got a heap of photos from the Outback Archives and we are asking anyone who comes to bring along any items or memories of Pellew’s that they might have to share along.”
The reunion will be held over a luncheon at the Musicians’ Club on June 6 with all past employees and their partners welcome to attend.
A Facebook group called ‘Pellew and Moore’s Reunion’ has been created and for more information or to RSVP to the event contact Mary on 0429 227 540 or Jill on 0416 198 591 by May 30.
