Residents in Williams and Bromide streets and beyond suffered a blackout after a wayward truck driver crashed into a power pole on Monday night.

The B-Double was attempting to go around the Williams Street roundabout around 8pm when his rig struck a timber power pole near the Coles Express Service Station.

Essential Energy spokesman David Crough said crews were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Crews worked as quickly as possible to make the area safe and used a crane to support the power pole overnight so that power could remain on,” Mr Crough said.

Households and businesses in the area would have seen a momentary unplanned power interruption when the damage to the power pole occurred, he said.

To enable crews to safely replace the damaged pole, power was also turned off to 275 households and businesses in the surrounding area yesterday between about 10am and 4pm.
