Whether you walk, run, cheer or volunteer, the Mother’s Day Classic is a great way to fundraise for breast cancer research and celebrate local mums.
Members from the local Breast Cancer Support Group are organising the Broken Hill Mother’s Day Classic which will be held on Sunday May 10 in Sturt Park.
“It is a four kilometre walk or run, which is four laps around the park,” support group publicity officer, Mary Barrie said.
Registration is at 8am and walkers can start from 8.30am and runners from 8.45am. Cost is $20 for adults, $10 for students and children under the age of 18.
“For a family of two adults and up to four children, it is $50 and $30 for a family of one adult and up to four children,” Mary said.
All money raised will go towards breast cancer research. Now, one in eight Australian women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. On average, seven women die from breast cancer every day.
“We have organised walks in the past, but this is the first time we have had a Mother’s Day Classic,” Mary said.
“Previously our events have been well attended.”
After the walk there will be pancakes and fruit for sale, as well as hot beverages from Outback Cuppas.
“Being Mother’s Day, we understand if people have other plans,” Mary said.
“We’re hoping it be a long event and encourage people to come for the morning.
“We also encourage people to dress up and there will be a prize for the best pink dressed person.
“We encourage all locals to attend, it’s only four kilometres and kids are quite safe,” she said.
“Someone asked if they could bring their dog, as long as they don’t get in the way - they are welcome.”
For more information contact Mary on 0401 322 294.
“You can pre-register online or by filling out a registration form - which I will collect,” she said.
