Five local revheads will compete in Mildura’s biggest stock car race meet of the season tonight.
Kasey Staker, Graeme Tumes, Matt Kemp, Kevin Ray and Jason McCormack will race against 33 other racing enthusiasts in the Spencer Race Engines TOP GUN at the Timmis Speedway in Mildura.
Two-time Australian racing champ Robbie Faux will be taking part along with the winner of the two previous TOP GUNS, Jason Duell.
Team spokeswoman Danielle Thomas said the race meet was one of the biggest of the season.
“It’s Australia’s biggest street stock event outside of the state title,” she said.
“It’s a really good opportunity for all the boys to get together and go to Mildura.
“Most of them keep it clean. They all kind of look after each other while they’re racing.”
After the racing heats conclude, the B Main race will commence, and will be in the form of a lap by lap knockout until four cars remain.
Those four will be promoted into the A Main race and will round out a 24 car field for the 40 lap main event.
“It’ll be rough and tough racing,” Thomas said.
“I dare say they’ll come back without any bumper.”
There is more than $6,500 in prize money and supplies up for grabs but Thomas said the financial incentive was not the reason why they race.
“We don’t go out there to win - we race to have fun.”
After Mildura, the fast five will likely head out to Waikerie in SA before the season winds up for another year.
