Footage has emerged of an alleged brazen thief strolling into the cinema with an empty plastic bag before helping himself to bottled water.
Yesterday evening the Silver City Cinema’s Ashton Wren took to a local crime watch page on Facebook to share vision of the incident captured by CCTV cameras.
Mr Wren asked users to help identify the “scumbag” who got away undetected with two bottles of stolen water late Sunday afternoon.
And the community was quick to rally behind the cause, with Mr Wren telling the BDT the post had gone “viral” within hours.
“Honestly I had to laugh at the cheek of it,” he said last night.
The goods were stolen from a downstairs fridge just inside the entrance of the Oxide Street business.
“We’ve had the fridge there for a very, very long time and we’ve never before had an incident,” Mr Wren said.
“I just thought the power of social media might help identify this young fellow and put him on the right path before he does worse.”
No one was downstairs manning the candy bar at the time the incident took place.
“This guy knew what he was doing. Sometimes Dad will go downstairs and have an iced coffee but this person must’ve known Dad isn’t in shape to run after anyone.”
Mr Wren praised the “fantastic” efforts of those who helped spread the message and asked anyone with information to contact local police.
