Cadets to visit Hong Kong
Tuesday, 12th May, 2015
Three local St John cadets have been chosen to attend an International Cadet Camp in Hong Kong.
St John training officer, Trevor Murphy, said they were asked to put expressions of interest out for the camp.
“These were put out across Australia for cadet personnel who were interested in making up the contingent of 70 to attend the camp to be held in Hong Kong in January 2016,” Mr Murphy said.
“They will come together to meet with other members from across the world for 10 days.”
Mr Murphy said 500 cadets expressed interest across Australia including 10 from Broken Hill.
“We are proud that three of our cadets - Cadet Haleigh Wendt, Cadet Trent Wendt and Cadet Leader Breanna Gunning - will be attending.
“They are all very excited to be going over.”
The cost to attend is $2,500 per person which includes flights, accommodation and meals.
“We are fundraising to help these members obtain the funds required to attend this great experience,” Mr Murphy said.
“We recently had our Mother’s Day raffle and we also have donation tins around the city. If anyone would like to support us, we would really appreciate it.”
They are also selling small first aid kits for $10.
Mr Murphy said the cadets had been working hard and it will be a great experience for them to meet cadets from all over the world.
Haleigh said she was very excited about going and hoped to bring back a lot of experience for the local cadet corp.
Anyone who would like to support them with sponsorship or donations may call Superintendent Sandra Haring on 0419 408 132.
