United score first victory
Thursday, 28th May, 2015
Broken Hill United recorded their first win of the Outback Rugby League season on Saturday, defeating the Wilcannia Parntu Warriors.
After only narrowly losing to the Geebungs in their first game and coming out of the bye, United launched an attacking bombardment against the Warriors which saw them finish the afternoon 64-28.
There were three multiple try scorers with Tony Tidball, Corey Beshman and Jonno Naden all crossing the line twice.
They were backed up by a sea of single try scorers and the entire attack proved potent and damaging.
Alan Murphy had some serious dead-eye with his kicking as he slotted 10 from 11 shots.
Seventeen-year-old Jordan Locklier showed his courage and played like a veteran.
Glen O’Donnell kept his solid start to the season going and Pete Fenners was also a top gun.
Coach Michael Thornberry was amazed about how the side performed.
“The boys have really put it together,” he said.
Despite dropping the first try of the match, United hit back to lead 30-16 at half time before racing to win by 34.
This coming weekend will see the Broken Hill Derby take place.
United will take on the Saints in a game that has proven to be quite physical and emotional in previous meetings.
