Interstate rivals join fun
Saturday, 30th May, 2015
Today heeds the sound of thunder as fast-paced racing takes place at the Broken Hill Speedway with Street Stocks, Modifieds and Dirt Karts providing the action.
It will be the first and last speedway meeting for the season and it’s going to be a pulsating and exhilarating affair with the first race starting at 1pm.
Gates open at 12pm with only $10 a head with under 16s at $5.
Event organiser and club secretary Graham Tumes said he was excited about the big race meet.
“It’s always good to have a spin on your local track.
“The track looks good and hopefully the weather holds off.”
Many racers are coming up from Mildura to give the locals a run for their money.
Kasey Staker is one of the local drivers who will take on the interstate travellers in the Street Stock class.
His Fast Print Studio Holden Commodore has taken a few knocks in previous races but looks pacey coming into today’s race.
Matt Kemp is another driver who will look to bring home the silverware for Broken Hill.
Tumes will also be right amongst the action but remains laidback about the racing side of things.
“We’re all out there for fun,” he said. “But we’ll be sure to have a fair go”.
Hot laps around the track will be raffled off over the course of the day and it gives you a first-hand experience of the adrenaline rush of race car driving.
Over 25 drivers are taking part in today’s race meet which paves the way for Motocross on Sunday.
This weekend is a big one for Broken Hill motorsport.
