Lions up to the challenge
Thursday, 2nd July, 2015
The Broken Hill Lions Club has a new president.
Katrina Webster joined Lions when she came to live in the city in 2010.
“I moved from Sydney and I didn’t know many people so I thought it would be good to participate in the community,” Katrina said.
“It has been fantastic. We have fun meetings every week plus a dinner meeting every second week. We have social events and everyone is very welcoming, plus you can put back into the community.
“I only do a little but it makes a big difference.”
Katrina said the Lions Club had helped her all along the way.
“Last year I was the vice-president,” she said. “Lions really nurture new members to get you involved.”
Katrina said past president Geoff Lehman had done “a wonderful job” and that she hoped to do as well.
“As president, I will chair meetings and have a fair bit of input in new projects.
“If there is anyone in the community trying to achieve something, we can offer support.
“If you come to us with an idea, we will try and make it happen.”
Katrina said the past 12 months had been great and she was looking forward to the next 12 months.
“Our members and committees have been very generous with their time, which shows in our fantastic outcomes,” she said.
“In Broken Hill last year we donated over $25,000 in the community and made significant donations to cancer, eye health and other medical research and disaster appeals.
“The Lions Club is a group of people who are dedicated to making their community a better place to live and work.
“With like-minded people, we provide real change and create opportunities in our community.
“Being part of such a large organisation means that each member’s contributions, whether big or small, adds up to make a big difference - and we have fun in the process. Many hands make light work.
“I am looking forward to an even greater year.”
