The local hospital has launched a new maternity service to ensure continuity of care.

“It is for women in Broken Hill and the surrounding region,” spokeswoman Alison Isaacs said.

“Women, at the start of their pregnancy, will be allocated a midwife to see them through and follow up after they leave hospital.

Participating midwives will be on call to be able to attend the labour of their patients.

One new mum, who was able to experience this, was Emmy Williams.

“I think it is amazing and we are very fortunate to be able to have this experience.”

Mrs Williams said she appreciated the chance to build a relationship with her midwives.

“I was confident having my midwives there; it is a fantastic opportunity for Broken Hill.

“It will benefit everyone involved.”
