Jack of all trades bows out with bingo
Thursday, 9th July, 2015
After 26 years at the Democratic Club there’s only one job that Peter Hynes hasn’t mastered.
But that will all change tomorrow when Peter gets to host bingo - on the same day he says goodbye to the club.
Peter had already spent more than two decades working before he started at the Demo almost 26 years ago.
“I started in September as a bar steward and now I am duty manager,” he said.
“I worked my way through the ranks over the years and I’ve done a bit of everything around the club.
“All except bingo, so my last day will be a fun day running the bingo.”
Peter said he hopes to spend more time with his family once he retires.
“I turn 65 shortly and I’ve been working for 50 years. I started in the workforce when I was 15.
“I’ve had a few health scares and I just want to enjoy the rest of my life with my family.
“I will really miss everyone at the Demo, especially all the characters and the good people I have worked with.”
But Peter said he will be go back into the club for the odd meal and a couple of drinks.
Bingo will start at 10.30am tomorrow and people are welcome to come in to say goodbye.
“It’s a bit of fun - it won’t be anything serious.”
