The RSPCA is encouraging people to get on board National Desexing Month and also help them find homes for an influx of animals.

Local RSPCA shelter manager Merridy Wall said they had many animals that needed good homes.

“We have lots of puppies, teenage dogs, adult dogs, kittens and cats - there is something for everyone,” she said.

“It’s been an unusual year. We have been very busy with cats and kittens and normally that stops around winter.

“We have three female fox terrier crosses. They came in and made up a litter of seven. We also have mastiff crosses which are a bigger breed. There are six of them aged 14 weeks and they are male and female.

“We have so many animals - you have a chance to come and choose whichever pet you like.”

Ms Wall said the influx showed people still weren’t taking advantage of desexing and she encouraged pet owners to get cheaper desexing on offer this month.

RSPCA NSW Veterinary Hospitals throughout the state are offering a 25 per cent discount as part of National Desexing Month.

The discount also applies to microchipping, which is the best way to identify lost pets and reunite them with their owners.

“Please take advantage of the desexing. It is the month to get it all done,” Ms Wall said.

The RSPCA is also accepting donations of towels and blankets.

“In this weather, they are all handy to have.”
