Health Council aim to improve services

Wednesday, 16th September, 2015

Health Council members will exchange ideas on how to improve services in the Far West when they meet in the city this week at the Far West Local Health District Annual Health Council Forum.

“Participants will have the opportunity to share their views on health issues as well as learn more about the role they play in enhancing health services for their communities,” said Ms Darriea Turley, Manager Community Engagement, Far West LHD.

“They will be joined by their governing body, the Far West LHD Board, the Chief Executive and senior management,” she said.

All Health Councils will give a presentation on their achievements during the year and councillors will join workshops to develop local health promotion projects addressing the health issues facing their communities.

The forum on Friday will also hear presentations on changes to Aged Care services and the 2015 Health Innovation award winning “Laughter and Fun: Community Mental Health Month Concerts.”

“We will also hear about new initiatives this year for the health councils including their new annual report,” said Ms Turley.

“Health Councillors provide a voice for the community which ensures benefits for their communities and builds co-operation between communities and health services,” she said.

The Forum will take place at University Department of Rural Health from 9.30am to 3pm.
