Ray Oates' first winner of the season
Monday, 22nd February, 2010
On a calm humid evening on Saturday night, the Broken Hill harness racing clubs 7th meeting saw locals winning in fine form. The highlight of the night was veteran trainer driver Ray Oates driving a winner aboard Shay Shay Shania who broke after dispatch and lost considerable ground but coming home strongly the last 200m to win the second fast class event.
Ray Oates who has been driving for many years rated the horse to perfection and won in fine fashion from a fine class of horse. Congratulations to Ray and Pat on their win and we hope they win many more!
The Mulga Hill Tavern Pace over 1900m kicked off with Miss Yanthan for Andrew Vozlic taking the lead easily. Miss Blue Bullet who had the perfect one one spot broke after 400m. Jointheclub was behind the leader and Barnover Cecil was facing the breeze. Renrow made his move mid race to sit in the death.
At 400m from home Andrew Vozlic asked for more from Miss Yanthan and she pulled away into the straight to win by half a length from Renrow who ran a good strong race and for third Barnover Cecil who won't be far off a win.
1. Miss Yanthan Andrew Vozlic 2. Renrow Kate Attard 3. Barnover Cecil Peter King Mile Rate: 2.05:2 The Broken Hill Community Credit Union Pace was the first fast class event on the programme over the 2210m distance. All of the front line came out well with Loaded Mind taking the lead from Toppie OTara sitting in the death for visiting driver Michael Smith. Tact Chester sat on the leaders back and was racing fierce and The Golden Bird was in the one one. At 400m from home moves were coming from the back of the field and Loaded Mind was being shook up.
Tact Chester couldn't get a split and was still pulling hard and the Golden Bird had to overcome a tiring Toppie OTara. Into the straight it was Loaded Mind who got there from Tact Chester who was still pulling hard but had nowhere to go and The Golden Bird who ran a good third. This gave Andrew Vozlic a driving double and the Wogsy, Leesa, Ash, Teagan and Jack Camilleri stable a winner!! 1. Loaded Mind Andrew Vozlic 2. Tact Chester Kate Attard 3. The Golden Bird Paul Evans Mile Rate: 2. 05 Race 3 was the SC Pest Control Pace over the 1900m distance for horses with 3 to 5 lifetime wins. Smart Cecil got the lead but was aggressively taken on by Mateoh for the lead. Always Correct then sat in her favourite death seat spot and Game Xample had some cover. At 400m from home Mateoh started to drop off dragging Smart Cecil back through the field. Always Correct went away from the field and won easily in fast time from Game Xample and for third Global Gift. A good drive by Cassie and Smart Cecil if he gets some luck will win very soon. 1. Always Correct Cassie Robinson 2. Game Xample Raz Slater 3. Global Gift Michael Smith Mile Rate: 2.04:2
The fourth event was the second of the fast class events over 2210m. Shay Shay Shania broke after dispatch losing considerable ground. Penequity led but was getting pressured by Heza Bomber Boy for the lead. Cullyndal had a good covered spot and Shay Shay Shania had caught the field and was dodging and weaving her way through the pack. Into the straight it was all Shay Shay Shania who went on to win the race for Ray Oates giving him his first winner for the season. Meganite who was back in the pack ran a great second and Penequity after being hammered out in front ran an excellent third.
But all credit must go to Ray and Shay Shay Shania who ran a superb race and we will now see this horse keep its winning form! 1. Shay Shay Shania Ray Oates 2. Meganite Raz Slater 3. Penequity Andre Vozlic Mile Rate: 2.06.4 The final event was an exciting one with a last driver change on Mountains of Art from Kate Attard to Mark Pelvin. In the parade ring this horse threw itself down three times and was ok to race. The first dispatch they all came out hard from the mobile and Moutains of Art broke and fell dislodging driver Mark Pelvin who is ok. It was declared a late scratching.
Merindah Rox, Lipstick Lill and Catos View all took a while to be pulled up for the second start putting them at a disadvantage second time round. The race then started with Corrected the visitor from Port Pirie keeping on breaking gait in running as did Prapsa Lady the other visitor from Port Pirie. The race was run perfectly for Ok Whose Next who was driven with a sit and then pulled out the last 400m to win giving Raz Slater a winner finally aboard this classy gelding. For second Corrected who if it didn't keep breaking would have been a better finish and for third Axemans Daughter who showed a vast improvement from its last few starts and will win soon. 1. Ok Whose Next Raz Slater 2. Corrected Michael Smith 3. Axemans Daughter Cassie Robinson
Dont forget next week is the Maltese Cup with Fashions at the Furlong, giveaways and prizes for races on all events.
