Four locals have participated in an interstate weighlifting competition after two months of preparation.

Personal trainer Trevor Williams along with Sarah Carnie, Aimee Hogarth and Kaylee Olsen attended the power-lifting competition in Adelaide last Sunday.

“It was held by Firas El Achkar who owns Fuzzy’s Power Lifting Gym,” Trevor said.

“There were 30 people in the competition, 15 male and 15 female.

“Competitors had to do things like squat, bench press and dead lift heavy weights in one repetition.

“It was a really fun, motivating and supportive event.”

Trevor said he was interested in the competition because it’s something he hasn’t done before.

“I asked the girls if they wanted to come along as well.

“It was really short notice and we had about two months to train.

“But everyone increased their lifts by 40 kilograms over that period.”

Trevor said he was really proud of the local competitors.

“They did really well, they had to combine three lifts for a total score and they all got between 110kg and 160kg,” he said.

He is now looking to do another competition with more locals.

“There is a women’s only novice event in March, I would like to take a whole heap of competitors down.

“You don’t need any experience, we can work with you to help.”
