Local musician Sharna Burcher has been accepted into the Academy of Country Music.

Sharna said she applied online to go to the academy and had to send Youtube videos, song samples, lyrics and a reference from someone in the industry.

“The academy tutors the participants on every aspect of the music business,” she said.

It was something she had wanted to do for a long time and “it was awesome to find out I got in.”

Sharna said well-known country music performer Bill Chambers, the father of Casey, helped her out by providing a reference.

In 2013, she went to the Central Coast to work on her album, “Livin’ On Closing Time” with Bill Chambers.

The Academy will run a two-week intensive workshop in January and Sharna will travel to Tamworth to take part.

“There is accommodation on site and everyone stays together.

“You are there the whole time. I’ve read that it is full-on but I’m hoping it can teach me a lot, especially with the business side of the industry. I would like to learn about that.”

Sharna said she was looking forward to it.

“It will be great to meet more people who, like me, are country singers as well as doing some writing and collaborating with more people.

“It will be an awesome experience.”

Sharna has already made great gains in the industry.
