Experienced regional broadcaster and manager Andrew Schmidt has been appointed the new chief of staff for ABC Broken Hill.

The role was created as part of the development of ABC Regional - a new division within the Corporation which brings country presenters, producers and reporters together as the one team.

Andrew has been with the ABC since 2003 when he began as a station manager and breakfast presenter.

During his time with ABC Broken Hill, he has been instrumental in a number of community engagement activities, including hosting numerous outside broadcasts.

Andrew was born and bred in Broken Hill and said he was passionate about ensuring the issues and conversations of the district were shared.

“I’m really confident we have the opportunity to create some quality content as the flexibility of the new structure will allow our staff to share ideas and work closer together on creating and sharing the stories of the people of far west of NSW,” he said.

The 2016 radio line-up for ABC Broken Hill was also confirmed yesterday.

The following local programs and presenters will be back with their loyal audiences from mid-January next year:

* 6.15am - 6.30am Rural Report with Cherie von Horchner

* 6.30 - 10am with Julie Clift

* 10am - 11am with Andrew Schmidt

The afternoon’s schedule remains unchanged.
